David St. Hill
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David John Anderson St. Hill, who died suddenly on Friday February 2nd. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Melanie Patrice (Kloiber) and daughter Natalie Patrice; also by brother Steve St. Hill and wife Orlene and sister Lisa (St. Hill) Wilson and husband Jon; and his niece and nephews.
Dave was born in St. Michael’s Parish, Barbados, West Indies, to Carmen (Kirton) St. Hill (deceased) and John St. Hill (deceased). He fondly recalled his childhood experiences growing up in Barbados and later in Brooklyn, New York. A stand-out baseball player with both his high school and Bonnies Boys Club teams, Dave caught the eye of scouts from the LA Dodgers as a senior. Ultimately Frank Gianone, Long Island University-Brooklyn’s baseball coach, offered Dave a 4-year scholarship to continue his baseball career while earning his degree in Business Management.
Dave began a finance career in Manhattan before moving to San Diego, CA to start up and manage the guaranteed government securities division of Imperial Bank, where he was the first black Vice President in the company’s history. He relocated to South Whitehall with his young family in 2002, where he established himself both as a local businessman and youth sports volunteer.
“Coach Dave” was a fixture on softball fields throughout the Lehigh Valley. His lifelong passion for the game and especially its lessons of hard work, commitment, and teamwork inspired hundreds of girls on and off the field for the past 15 years. He became the face of Parkland Youth Center (PYC), serving on the board as the head of all baseball and softball programs. In addition to PYC, Dave also held coaching roles with Wm Allen and most recently Parkland High Schools. Dave also managed to seemingly meet everyone in South Whitehall Township, who he’d greet with a warm smile and firm handshake whether on a field, school, or at the part-time job he loved at Kohl’s.
A viewing will be held Thursday, February 8th 6-8PM and Friday, February 9th 9:30-11:00AM with a Funeral Service to follow at 11AM in Kohut Funeral Home, Inc. 950 N. Front St. Allentown, PA 18102. Entombment to follow at Grandview Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Dave St. Hill Memorial Foundation, established to honor Dave’s commitment to the development of youth athletics.
