Joseph A. Hafner, 85, of Allentown, passed away Friday, August 22, 2014 in Cedarbrook Nursing Home, Allentown. He was the loving husband of 59 years to Valentina M. (Hurban) Hafner. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Unger) Hafner. Joseph served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for over 30 years at Joe Coyle and then for 10 years as a Bridge Superintendent for Lehigh County. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Slovak Catholic Church and the American Legion.
Robert Hertzog, 76, of Allentown died on Monday, August 11, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital Bethlehem after a courageous battle with Leukemia.
Robert “Bob” D. Haymaker, 64, of Orefield, passed away January 2, 2014. He was the loving husband to Jane E. (Peifer) Haymaker for 19 years. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Steven and Mary (Franek) Haymaker. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. Bob was retired from Tyler Pipe. He had previously driven school buses for Community Services for Children/ Head Start and worked at Exide Battery. Bob was of the Catholic faith. He was an avid football fan and loved the Miami Dolphins. Bob and his friends originated the Duffers Classic amongst his group of golfing buddies.
Janice A. Hercek, 65, of Whitehall, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013. Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late John and Stella (Jaskot) Hercek. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Slovak Catholic Church. Janice retired from Air Products after over 15 years of service.
Mary K. (Krasulak) Hresko, 94, of Coopersburg, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2013. She was the loving wife of the late John Jack Hresko. Born in Allentown on October 10, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Julia (Gulych) Krasulak. Mary worked as a seamstress and later sold ladies dresses for Macys Department Store. She loved to ballroom dance. Survivors: Grandchildren, Gary Schmidt and Laura Schmidt; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Annika Schmidt; brothers, John, Michael, and Frank Krasulak; half-brothers, Andy and Stephen Krasulak; many nieces, nephews; and grandnieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Carole A. Schmidt; sisters, Anna Felegy and Catherine Hutnick; brother, Johnnie; and half-brother, William Krasulak. Services: A viewing will be held on Friday, 10 to 11:30 a.m., with a service to follow at 11:30 a.m., all in Kohut Funeral Home, Inc., 950 N. Front St., Allentown, 18102. Burial to follow in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Northampton.
Marie H. Hirak, 84, of Nazareth, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at St. Lukes Hospital, Bethlehem surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of the late George Hirak who passed away December 25, 1999. Marie was the daughter of the late Paul and Theresa (Stellar) Holoska. She worked at Lehigh Portland Cement and as a crossing guard for the City of Allentown. She was a devoted and caring wife, mother and grandmother. She was a former member of St. John the Baptist Slovak Catholic Church, Allentown. In her youth, she participated in the National Sokols Gymnastics Lodge 30. Marie loved and enjoyed her grandchildren, collecting dolls, and reading. Survivors: She will always be lovingly remembered by her family which includes daughters, Marianne Deutsch and her husband Dennis of Nazareth, Kathleen Mitchell and her husband Michael of Cleveland, OH, Georgette Guth and her husband Franklin of Northampton; grandchildren, Laura Deutsch, Franklin Guth and his wife Rebecca, John Guth, Amanda and Andrew Mitchell. Stefania (Oleszczuk) Huzar, 96, of Coopersburg, passed February 11, 2013. She was the wife of the late Iwan Huzar. She was a member of St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Millennium Choir and loved to sing and sew.
George Hutnick, 89, of Allentown passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2012. He was the loving husband of the late Catherine B. (Krasulak) Hutnick who recently passed away on August 20th. They would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on Sept. 30th. Born in North Coplay, he was the son of the late Stefan and Mary (Nestorik) Hutnick. George was a member of St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church where he served as the 1st President of their Holy Name Society in 1959. George was a WWII veteran who served in the U.S. Army with the 1st Signal Co. of the 1st Infantry Division. He landed at Omaha Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944 on the Sixteenth Wave, bringing in signal and field wire equipment. His awards included the Bronze Star Medal (Valor), Silver Service Star, Presidential Unit Citation, the European Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars and one Bronze Arrowhead and the Croix de Guerre Award by France. Prior to enlisting in Dec. 1942, he spent a year as a Turret Lathe Operator for Bethlehem Steel. He attended Allentown Business College on the GI Bill and worked in the wholesale plumbing and heating supply business as a manager and manufacturers representative and later in sales until retiring at age 70. He was a longtime member of the American Legion, Catholic War Vets, and VFW in Northampton and the Knights of Columbus in Allentown.
