Howard L. Summy, 89, of Allentown, died on September 26, 2024. He was the loving husband of 67 years to Sandra G. (Loy) Summy. Born in Palmyra, PA, he was the son of the late George and Viola I. (Howard) Summy. He graduated from Palmyra High School, class of 1954. He served in the U.S. Army during the Cold War and was proud of his service to his country. He retired from Mack Trucks as a maintenance foreman. A Master Mason, he was a member of Jordan-Martin Lodge No. 673, and a 32-degree Mason in the Scottish Rite,
Valley of Allentown. He was a member, council member, and property chairperson at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Allentown, prior to its closing, and was a current member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Allentown.
He earned every cent he got and gave of himself freely. He could fix anything. He made the best homemade ice cream ever. His family meant everything to him. He was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.
Survivors: wife- Sandra Summy; children- Pastor Richard and wife Christine, Timothy and wife Lisa, Daniel and wife Linda; grandchildren- Ashley, Haley and husband Kyle, Tori and husband Tearin, Dana and husband Justin, Alexandra and husband Dominic; great grandchildren- Aubree, Dahlia, Rhiannon, Danielle, Athena, Dean, and Jensen. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Louise Walters.
A calling time will take place from 6:30-8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 8, and a funeral service will take place on Wednesday, October 9 at 11:00 AM, preceded by a calling time from 10:00-11:00 AM, at the Kohut Funeral Home, Inc. 950 N. Front St. Allentown, PA 18102. Inurnment will take place in Indiantown Gap Cemetery, Annville, on a date to be determined.

Kathryn Sukal
Kathryn Sukal was called home to the Lord on August 30th after 91 years of life. Born to the late Justin and Helen (Novak) Klementovich formerly of Allentown, she was predeceased by her sister Agnes Haupt. She was married to her beloved husband Charles for 46 years until his passing and was mother to three sons who loved her dearly and were never far from her. She was a devoted mother who lovingly supported her children throughout the years. Kathryn was an alumni of Allentown Central Catholic High School (Class of 1950) and was once employed by both Trojan Powder Company and Kraft Foods. While once a longtime resident of Allentown’s east side, she and her family moved to find a home in Fogelsville in 1978. It was there where she gave freely of her time and energy to the Fogelsville Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary serving in several office capacities. She was active in fundraising, coordinating Bingo and chicken sales, as well as working the banquet hall. She leaves many friends there, along with her lady card players. She lived a Christian life and was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Slovak Catholic Church in Allentown, although more recently celebrated Mass at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Orefield.
Kathryn is survived by her three sons- Guy and his wife Gloria of New Tripoli, Jeff and his wife Melanie of Fogelsville, and Mark of Fogelsville. She leaves behind several nieces and nephews, grandchildren- Theresa and her husband Stephen Moulton, Stephanie and her husband Brian Bowers, Jacob and Jenna Greco and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her grandson- Luke.
Services will be hosted by Kohut Funeral Home, Inc. 950 N. Front St. Allentown, PA 18102 with Visitation allowances on Friday, September 6th 8:30-10:30AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11:00AM in St. John the Baptist Slovak Catholic Church 924 N. Front St. Allentown, PA 18102. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.

Rose Scrizzi
Rose Marie (Miller) Scrizzi, 88, of Allentown, passed away peacefully August 11, 2024. She was the loving wife of the late John C. Scrizzi who she celebrated 57 years of marriage together prior to his passing in 2020. Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Anna (Kehs) Miller.
She graduated from Allentown Central Catholic High School in 1953 and began working for Provident Mutual Insurance Company. After the birth of her first child, Rose stayed home to be a full-time mother until her sons entered their teen years. At that time, Rose went back to school and embarked on a new career with H&R Block as a Tax Preparer. After 25 years with H& R Block, she retired and spent another 20+ years volunteering with AARP preparing taxes for seniors.
Rose was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She enjoyed bowling and playing pinochle with her family and friends. She enjoyed countless family gatherings at her parents’ cottage as well as her cabin at Lake Wallenpaupack. She also enjoyed downhill skiing, cross country skiing, water skiing, ice skating, fishing and hiking with her family.
Rose enjoyed cheering on her favorite sports teams: Penn State, Phillies, Eagles, IronPigs and Phantoms. She attended numerous IronPigs and Phantoms games with her family’s season tickets and always made a point to walk around the stadium/arena to talk with friends and her favorite ushers!
In Rose’s final years, her greatest joy came from spending time with her granddaughter and newest best friend, Sophia! Upon Sophia’s birth, Rose moved into her new home, 3 doors away and became an amazing grandmother. From changing diapers to practicing ABC’s, counting, potty training and reading, she jumped at any chance to spend time with Sophia. From Sophia’s 1st day of kindergarten and on, Rose was at her front door every morning to wave and wish Sophia a good day at school. She attended countless dance recitals, basketball and volleyball games, school plays and most recently the Sunday church breakfasts where Sophia would always sit next to her grandmother at mass and volunteer to get her fruit after she finished her eggs and French toast.
She will be deeply missed.
Survivors: sons- John J. and wife Lissette of Allentown, Joseph M. of Allentown; granddaughter- Sophia; siblings- Mary Ann Williamson, William and his wife Jackie. She was predeceased by siblings- Joseph, George, Richard, Jacob Jr. and David.

George Sabo
George M. Sabo, of Emmaus, passed away recently. He was the son of the late John T. and Mary F. Sabo. He was a graduate of Allentown Catholic High School and Duquesne University. He worked as a buyer for Mack Trucks for 20 years. He is survived by 2 brothers, a sister and nieces and nephews. Services will be Private.
Olivia Slavish
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Olivia Anne Slavish on May 3, 2024 at the age of 66. Olivia was born as the oldest daughter to Sophie K. and Alex P. Slavish on November 4, 1957 in Bethlehem, PA. She was the beloved wife of Michael Deli.
She was a graduate of Freedom High School in 1975 and Temple University’s School of Pharmacy in 1981. Following graduation she moved to Chicago, Illinois. There she received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Illinois. She was passionate about the care of veterans and had a long lasting 35 year career as a pharmacist at the Edward Hines, Jr. VA hospital until her retirement in 2016
She enjoyed travel to Europe, Alaska, Mexico and visiting family in Pennsylvania. Her faith led her to her church congregation, the Christ Church of Oak Brook, where her passion for creating and knitting prayer shawls allowed her to remain active in her spirit of giving.
She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Michael Deli; her sisters, Alexis and Dr. Lydia Slavish and her nieces, Lauren and Meredith Roberts and her nephews, Griffith and Jonathan Roberts as well as many cousins and friends. Her dry sense of humor and contagious laugh will be remembered and missed.
A viewing will be held on Friday, May 17th 11:30AM-1:30PM with a Funeral Service to follow at 1:30PM all in Kohut Funeral Home, Inc. 950 N. Front St. Allentown, PA 18102. Burial to follow in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery in Whitehall.

David St. Hill
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David John Anderson St. Hill, who died suddenly on Friday February 2nd. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Melanie Patrice (Kloiber) and daughter Natalie Patrice; also by brother Steve St. Hill and wife Orlene and sister Lisa (St. Hill) Wilson and husband Jon; and his niece and nephews.
Dave was born in St. Michael’s Parish, Barbados, West Indies, to Carmen (Kirton) St. Hill (deceased) and John St. Hill (deceased). He fondly recalled his childhood experiences growing up in Barbados and later in Brooklyn, New York. A stand-out baseball player with both his high school and Bonnies Boys Club teams, Dave caught the eye of scouts from the LA Dodgers as a senior. Ultimately Frank Gianone, Long Island University-Brooklyn’s baseball coach, offered Dave a 4-year scholarship to continue his baseball career while earning his degree in Business Management.
Dave began a finance career in Manhattan before moving to San Diego, CA to start up and manage the guaranteed government securities division of Imperial Bank, where he was the first black Vice President in the company’s history. He relocated to South Whitehall with his young family in 2002, where he established himself both as a local businessman and youth sports volunteer.
“Coach Dave” was a fixture on softball fields throughout the Lehigh Valley. His lifelong passion for the game and especially its lessons of hard work, commitment, and teamwork inspired hundreds of girls on and off the field for the past 15 years. He became the face of Parkland Youth Center (PYC), serving on the board as the head of all baseball and softball programs. In addition to PYC, Dave also held coaching roles with Wm Allen and most recently Parkland High Schools. Dave also managed to seemingly meet everyone in South Whitehall Township, who he’d greet with a warm smile and firm handshake whether on a field, school, or at the part-time job he loved at Kohl’s.

Hilda Sawka
Hilda (Unger) Sawka, 93, of Allentown, passed away December 29, 2023. She was the loving wife of the late Max Sawka. Born in Stiles, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Anna Unger. Hilda retired from the Allentown State Hospital. She was a past President of the Charlotte Schmoyer Crime Watch on the Eastside of Allentown. Hilda enjoyed cooking and baking and even had her own private catering business. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her son, John and his wife Susie, and 2 sisters. She was predeceased by a brother and two sisters.

Bernadine Schumaker
In Loving Memory of Bernadine M. Schumaker
Bernadine M. Schumaker, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away on the morning of December 17, 2023, at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Salisbury Township, Pennsylvania. She was 84. She and her husband, Donald R. Schumaker Sr of Orefield, shared 66 wonderful years of marriage since their union on November 16, 1957.
Born on January 17, 1939, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Bernadine was the daughter of the late John P. and Marie C. Sutjak (Gurgick). She was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Slovak Catholic Church in Allentown. She attended St. John the Baptist Church grade school and graduated from Allentown Central Catholic High School in 1956.
Bernadine began her professional journey as a key punch operator at Mack Trucks. Later, she pursued a career in computer programming, earning her degree from Lehigh Carbon Community College. She went on to have a successful career contributing her skills to the Capital Blue Cross, Gould Inc., and Harleysville Insurance companies.
A dedicated member of the service community, Bernadine was a member of the Kuhnsville Area Lioness Club and served as treasurer for several years.
Bernadine was an avid ballroom dancer, participating with her husband in the Cotillion Dance Club and the US Amateur Ballroom Dancers Association. Together, they enjoyed the art of dance and created lasting memories together on the dance floor.
Her adventurous spirit led her to travel the world, embracing diverse cultures and creating cherished moments with her family.
Bernadine was a loving sister to Marion J. O'Neil (Dennis) and brother John S. Sutjak (Rebecca), and she was predeceased by her sister Johanna Malinowski (Stanley).
In her cherished role as a dedicated mother, Bernadine is survived by her children: Donald R. Schumaker Jr., Melodie M. Stinner (Edward), Richard J. Schumaker, and Mary K. Cargo (James).
She leaves behind a profound legacy of love and warmth that extends to her beloved grandchildren: Donald Jr.’s children—Donald R. Schumaker III (Tiffani), Gavin R. Schumaker, and Abigail R. Schumaker; Melodie’s children—Deanna M. Stinner Moussa (Ramie) and Kyle E. Stinner; Richard’s son—Keith R. Schumaker (Tasha); and Mary’s son—Alexander J. Cargo.
Her great-grandchildren include Keith’s daughters—Hailey and Addalyne—and Donald III’s children—David, Reagyn, Kylor and Lita. The most recent addition to the family is Bernadine's great-great-grandchild, Jasper Park, son of David.
In the final years of her life, Bernadine faced the challenges of Parkinson's Disease with strength and resilience. To honor her memory and contribute to the fight against Parkinson's, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or to St. John the Baptist Slovak Catholic Church care of Kohut Funeral Home.
Bernadine Schumaker will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for her family. May she rest in peace, and may her legacy continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
