Leyda Luisa Avila Delgado, 90, of Metuchen, N.J. passed away on December 24, 2024. She was born on February 1, 1934, to the late Emiliano and Luisa Avila Delgado in the beautiful coastal city of Manta, Ecuador. In her earlier years, Leyda had a passion for playing the piano and carried a love for music throughout her life. In addition to raising her family, she worked as a seamstress and merchant before migrating to the United States in 1994. She was devoted to her Catholic faith and prayed the Chaplet of Divine Mercy daily. Leyda loved life and you could find her dancing, singing, and playing cards with her family and friends at Metuchen Senior Apartments where her home was the heart of social occasions. Her favorite activities included shopping, caring for her plants, and going on long car rides. She was a seasoned cook and known for making delicious coastal Ecuadorian delicacies in her kitchen loved by many. For years she attended Harmony Adult Medical Daycare Center in Piscataway, N.J. where she was a member of a loving adult community. Above all, Leyda treasured spending time with her family and creating memories with the multiple generations of grandchildren whom she joyfully watched grow. She will be deeply missed by those who remember her radiant spirit, zest for life, and compassionate heart.

She is survived by her children Jenny Ortiz and husband Rafael Ortiz, Jhonny Cabrera, Juan Carlos Cabrera and Marianela Cabrera. Grandchildren Gianino, Israel, Giancarlo, Paolo, Ronny, Ivan, Gianna, Yvette, Jennifer, Yasilis, Sayoha, Johnny Jr., Emily, Jose Ricardo, Juan Diego, Pablo Emilio, Paola, Kyle and Kayla; and 21 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Andres Cabrera.

Monica Michaelene Anthony, age 91, died on July 3rd in Fellowship Manor. She was married to her beloved husband John for 64 years upon his passing in 2018. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Suzanna (Kakalecik) Lichman. She was born in Allentown, PA. She was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Slovak Catholic Church; she attended Daily mass for many years. She was most recently a member of the choir. She was the Choir Director for 25 years. She was a soloist for 32 years throughout the Lehigh Valley, her trademark was Schubert’s Ave Maria, it was the most requested hymn in her repertoire.
She was active for many years in the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association (T.F.C.S.L.A.), domiciled in Beechwood, OH, as President and Secretary of branches 319 and 187 in Allentown, PA, and as a National Auditor for 12 years. She was a top seller of life insurance and annuities and in addition to other accolades, she was crowned queen at the convention in 1987 in Anaheim, CA, exceeding $1 million in sales. She was also a member of the Slovak Pennsylvania Union Branch 40, the Cardinal Tomko Chapter Association, and she was on the Board of the New York Fraternal Congress and represented T.F.C.S.L.A. as a delegate of the New Jersey Fraternal Congress.
She was a staunch and consistent advocate for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She was an alumni of Allentown Central Catholic High School, from where her husband, children, and grandchildren also all graduated.
She loved dancing, photography, traveling and especially singing. She is survived by daughters Susan Alfier (Joseph), Monica Leavitt (Doug), sons Mark Anthony (Cheryl), Michael Anthony (Eric Fisher) and Martin Anthony, 7 grandchildren, 5 great–grandchildren, sisters–in–law Kathryn Schlachter and Anna Udicious, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by husband John, son John, brothers Leo and Michael, sisters Sister Bernadette Lichman MSC, Mary Ann Seman, Suzanne Simitz and Theresa Gutekunst.
Calling hours are Tuesday, July 9 from 9:30-11:30 AM in the front of St. John the Baptist Slovak Catholic Church, 924 N. Front St., Allentown, PA 18102, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM.

Mary M. Anthus, passed away March 12, 2022 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Muhlenberg. She was the wife of John J. Anthus Jr. who had passed away on January 9, 1997. She was the daughter of the late John Marcin and Anna (Pavlik) Marcin, both of Czechoslovakia. Mary was born on August 1, 1927. She was a member of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, located in Allentown, for many years. She was a beautiful woman who was kind and generous with a heart of gold, she will be missed tremendously.
She is survived by her two sons, John J. Anthus III of Whitehall and Michael D. Anthus of Allentown.

Scott R. Artwohl, 59, of Allentown, passed away of complications from diabetes on December 9, 2021. Born in Washington D.C. he was the son of the late Ann Jane (Peacock) Artwohl Joseph and the late Abraham Joseph of Allentown and the late Edward R. and Rita (Johnston) Artwohl, who resides in Fort Myers, FL. Scott grew up in Allentown, graduating from William Allen High Scholl in 1981. He previously resided in Los Angeles, CA and Naples, FL.. Scott’s work history includes Retail Sales and Visual Design positions with Macy’s as well as Finance Manager positons at Beverly Hills Honda in CA and Mayo Motors in Trexlertown, PA. Scott enjoyed spending time with friends .He will be deeply missed. Survivors include his brother Todd Artwohl and his wife Donna (Scholl) of Allentown, sister Lisa Roche and her husband Pete Jones of Allentown, Nephews Brendan Roche of Houston, TX and Connor Roche of Schnecksville and Scott’s partner, Bruce Bush of Allentown. Patricia “Pat” Aschettino, of Whitehall, Pennsylvania, passed away while surrounded by her loved ones, returning to the care of our lord on October 22, 2021.

Pat was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 17, 1939, to her parents Robert and Helen O’Neil.
As a teenager, she met the love of her life, Peter Aschettino. This partnership resulted in a love filled marriage of 64 years. Together, Pete and Pat went on countless adventures, traveling around the country, moving from place to place. As a team, they pursued multiple business ventures, but their greatest achievement was raising their three beautiful children.

Pat was known for her passion and talent for cooking. She showed her affection through the countless meals she prepared for both friends and family. While her recipes were always shared to those who asked, it was clear that they never quite tasted the same. Pat’s secret ingredient in every meal prepared was the love she included.

Pat was survived by her children, Michael Aschettino, Lorraine de la Fuente, and Tina Aschettino. Her grandchildren Carmella, Justine, Jillian, Angelina, and Enjoli and her great-grandchildren Avery, Summer, and Willow.

Pat was predeceased by her parents, and her siblings Joan, Doris, and Barbara. She is survived by her brothers Robert and Thomas, and her sisters Gerri and Kathleen.

Francis L. Andres, Jr., 50, of Slatington, passed away September 17, 2021. He was the loving husband of the late Kristin E. (Anderson) Andres. Born in Allentown, he was the son of Frances M. Deprill and the late Francis L. Andres Sr. He had worked as a truck driver for Labarre Construction Co. He enjoyed being on the road truck driving. Frank loved spending time with family, especially all 4 children. His hobbies included partaking in motorcycle benefits for charity, riding with friends and family and cooking meals that were never the same but always amazing everytime. He will be deeply missed.

Andres of Whitehall, stepdaughter- Anayis Martir of Audubon, stepson- Zachariah Rauch of Audubon, brothers- Rodney C. Andres and Nathan R. Andres; nieces and nephews- Dwayne P. Andres Jr., Jessica L. Andres, Taylor N. Andres and other extended family includes uncle- Charles E. Deprill and sister-in-law- Lilli J. Andres. He was predeceased by his brother- Dwayne P. Andres.

Paul Andreas, 60, of Bethlehem, passed away April 28, 2021. Born in Allentown he was the son of the late Mary (Lagosky) and Layton Andreas Sr. Paul earned his Master’s Degree in 2017 from La Salle University in Philadelphia in Nonprofit Leadership. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, VA in 1984 in the Liberal Arts. His last philanthropic ventures serving in the nonprofit sector included serving as an Auditor on St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church Parish Council, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the St. Constantine School of the Lehigh Valley on the Fundraising and Building committees. He was a devout member of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Allentown.

Survivors: brothers, Layton Jr. and wife Judy, Mark and wife Laura; sister, Mary Jo and husband Scott Anderson; nieces and nephews, Nicole and husband John Fritz, Brian and wife Emma, Matthew, Steven, Ryan and Daniel. He was predeceased by an infant brother.

A viewing will be held on Monday, May 3rd 7-9PM with a Parastas at 8:30PM in Kohut Funeral Home, Inc. 950 N. Front St. Allentown, PA 18102. A Funeral Service will be held Privately for the family and church members. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.

Barbara Daisy (Helfrich) Afflerbach, 95, of Allentown, passed away peacefully and quietly on April 15, 2021. She was the loving wife of the late Arthur Afflerbach. Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Anna (Haring) Helfrich. Barbara worked previously as a clerk for Hess Brothers Dept. Store. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, fishing, camping and snowmobiling.
Survivors: sons- Donald and wife Patricia of Center Valley, Russell and wife Barbara of Macungie, Richard and wife Cecelia of North Carolina; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; sister-in-laws- Louise Helfrich of Allentown, Anna Mae Helfrich of Allentown. She was predeceased by her sister- Betty Fegley and brothers- Arthur and Robert Helfrich.
