Leyda Luisa Avila Delgado, 90, of Metuchen, N.J. passed away on December 24, 2024. She was born on February 1, 1934, to the late Emiliano and Luisa Avila Delgado in the beautiful coastal city of Manta, Ecuador. In her earlier years, Leyda had a passion for playing the piano and carried a love for music throughout her life. In addition to raising her family, she worked as a seamstress and merchant before migrating to the United States in 1994. She was devoted to her Catholic faith and prayed the Chaplet of Divine Mercy daily. Leyda loved life and you could find her dancing, singing, and playing cards with her family and friends at Metuchen Senior Apartments where her home was the heart of social occasions. Her favorite activities included shopping, caring for her plants, and going on long car rides. She was a seasoned cook and known for making delicious coastal Ecuadorian delicacies in her kitchen loved by many. For years she attended Harmony Adult Medical Daycare Center in Piscataway, N.J. where she was a member of a loving adult community. Above all, Leyda treasured spending time with her family and creating memories with the multiple generations of grandchildren whom she joyfully watched grow. She will be deeply missed by those who remember her radiant spirit, zest for life, and compassionate heart.
Monica Michaelene Anthony, age 91, died on July 3rd in Fellowship Manor. She was married to her beloved husband John for 64 years upon his passing in 2018. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Suzanna (Kakalecik) Lichman. She was born in Allentown, PA. She was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Slovak Catholic Church; she attended Daily mass for many years. She was most recently a member of the choir. She was the Choir Director for 25 years. She was a soloist for 32 years throughout the Lehigh Valley, her trademark was Schubert’s Ave Maria, it was the most requested hymn in her repertoire.
Mary M. Anthus, passed away March 12, 2022 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Muhlenberg. She was the wife of John J. Anthus Jr. who had passed away on January 9, 1997. She was the daughter of the late John Marcin and Anna (Pavlik) Marcin, both of Czechoslovakia. Mary was born on August 1, 1927. She was a member of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, located in Allentown, for many years. She was a beautiful woman who was kind and generous with a heart of gold, she will be missed tremendously.
Scott R. Artwohl, 59, of Allentown, passed away of complications from diabetes on December 9, 2021. Born in Washington D.C. he was the son of the late Ann Jane (Peacock) Artwohl Joseph and the late Abraham Joseph of Allentown and the late Edward R. and Rita (Johnston) Artwohl, who resides in Fort Myers, FL. Scott grew up in Allentown, graduating from William Allen High Scholl in 1981. He previously resided in Los Angeles, CA and Naples, FL.. Scott’s work history includes Retail Sales and Visual Design positions with Macy’s as well as Finance Manager positons at Beverly Hills Honda in CA and Mayo Motors in Trexlertown, PA. Scott enjoyed spending time with friends .He will be deeply missed. Survivors include his brother Todd Artwohl and his wife Donna (Scholl) of Allentown, sister Lisa Roche and her husband Pete Jones of Allentown, Nephews Brendan Roche of Houston, TX and Connor Roche of Schnecksville and Scott’s partner, Bruce Bush of Allentown. Services will be for private. Arrangements are entrusted to Kohut Funeral Home, Inc.
Patricia “Pat” Aschettino, of Whitehall, Pennsylvania, passed away while surrounded by her loved ones, returning to the care of our lord on October 22, 2021.
Paul Andreas, 60, of Bethlehem, passed away April 28, 2021. Born in Allentown he was the son of the late Mary (Lagosky) and Layton Andreas Sr. Paul earned his Master’s Degree in 2017 from La Salle University in Philadelphia in Nonprofit Leadership. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, VA in 1984 in the Liberal Arts. His last philanthropic ventures serving in the nonprofit sector included serving as an Auditor on St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church Parish Council, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the St. Constantine School of the Lehigh Valley on the Fundraising and Building committees. He was a devout member of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Allentown.
Barbara Daisy (Helfrich) Afflerbach, 95, of Allentown, passed away peacefully and quietly on April 15, 2021. She was the loving wife of the late Arthur Afflerbach. Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Anna (Haring) Helfrich. Barbara worked previously as a clerk for Hess Brothers Dept. Store. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, fishing, camping and snowmobiling.
